Fostering respect, recognition and inclusion of Aboriginal peoples

Respect. Recognise. Empower.

As an inclusive and culturally responsive service provider, Accordwest is passionate about supporting Aboriginal communities across WA’s South West. Our Aboriginal Recognition, Respect and Empowerment (ACRRE) Framework inspires us to take bold steps toward real change, grounded by three core commitments. Respect the rich heritage, wisdom, and traditions of Aboriginal communities by listening and learning from cultural practices. Recognise the vital role of Aboriginal leadership by valuing and incorporating their contributions. And Empower Aboriginal communities by creating opportunities that foster growth through meaningful partnerships. Join us as we walk side by side into a brighter future.

Throughout more than 40 years in the South West, we’ve seen the Noongar community and its leaders achieve significant milestones in cultural revival and community empowerment, from the opening of Ngilgi Cave Cultural Tours, to the establishment of the Bibbulmun Healing Garden and the South West Native Title Settlement. The more we learn, the more we’re inspired to work side by side to create new achievements together.

Our ACRRE Framework is designed to drive this positive change. Through active engagement with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal communities, we deepen our understanding in ways that create meaningful community growth. We rigorously train our team to deliver impactful, culturally informed programs like Bindjareb. And with the support of a Specialist Advisor in Aboriginal Culture and Customs, as well as the potential appointment of an Aboriginal Elder in residence, we’ll continue to dismantle service barriers and create new funding opportunities for the betterment of all.

Making our commitment real

The ACRRE Framework is foundational to all we do, guiding us on everything from valuing the wisdom and practices of elders, to the cultural training our staff undergo and the region-specific Aboriginal protocols we follow, right down to incorporating Aboriginal naming within our organisation.
