Bunyap 2.0. A safe space for 18-25s.

Seeking shelter. Finding independence.

Our plan to end homelessness in the Southwest is all coming together. Thanks to a generous $5million grant awarded as part of Department of Communities Community Housing Grants announced by Hon. Minister Carey, Minister for Housing, MLA, Accordwest is seizing another important opportunity to ‘support more people’ by delivering Bunyap 2.0. Located on Forrest Avenue, Bunbury, the new purpose-built facility will offer up to eight young people the opportunity to experience independent living.

  • Six 1-bedroom self-contained units with ensuite bathrooms
  • Two 1-bedroom self-contained units with ensuite bathrooms (designed for young couples or women who are pregnant or have a child under 1)
  • Expansive, two level, multi-purpose shared facilities (with garden) for tenants and dedicated Accordwest team.

Case Workers will be on hand at Bunyap 2.0 to support tenants as they make positive changes in their lives, delivered in client appointment rooms and offices at the facility.

In-house support services will help tenants:

  • Access community or private housing
  • Access and apply for private rentals (including tenant advocacy)
  • Improve financial literacy, which may also include support to establish payment plans to clear debt
  • Strengthen family relationships
  • Engage with education and training opportunities
  • Gain employment
  • Access services from other organisations (e.g. mental health, physical health, AOD)
  • Access life skills education and practical experience that will support them to secure and maintain long-term housing.

As part of our Bidee Program, a dedicated Wellness Facilitator will also visit the facility to deliver harm reduction strategy workshops for young people engaging in alcohol and other drug use, addressing their challenges in a safe and supported environment.

Who Bunyap 2.0 will benefit

Weekends playing footy at PC Payne Park. Meeting friends at the skate park. Family picnics at Koombana Bay. Bunbury is our home too – and we want to lift our most vulnerable young lives experiencing hardship and disadvantage so more people can experience the best of it. Bunyap 2.0 takes our successful Bunyap crisis accommodation concept to the next level, providing young people aged 18-25 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness (including those transitioning out of foster care) a safe space to regain control as they transition to a life they choose to live. It’s a place where they can enjoy modern shared facilities, build life skills, and deep root the community connections they need to thrive, with staff on hand to support tenants in making positive changes in their lives in ways that increase wellbeing and self-belief.

Site works have officially commenced on our Bunyap Expansion Project. Completed by Prime Contracting, stage one involves the demolition of the old and derelict house and outbuildings, which have well and truly had their day. Then it’s just a matter of clearing the site in preparation for works to begin in early 2024, when our amazing Bunyap 2.0 facility will start coming to life. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project.

Together, we’ll make it happen

The mission to eliminate homelessness in the South West is a challenge we can only solve together and through partnerships. Our comprehensive Bunyap 2.0 vision imagines a future where more of our community’s most vulnerable and at risk can get the support they need to regain control of their lives, and step into it. However, even with the $5million Community Housing Grant Funding, we need the innate generosity of the Bunbury community to support development and building right from the get-go. If you know local businesses, or civic mindset individuals with the ability to contribute funds, please reach out to us. If you’re interested and able to contribute yourself, please use the DONATE button via our homepage.
