Setting tenants up for success

Creating environments to thrive

Our vision to set up disadvantaged people in local communities for tenancy success is all coming together, thanks to the $1,420,192 Department of Communities Community Housing Grant announced by Hon John Carey, MLA, Minister for Housing. The generous funding will be used to refurbish 14 of our 31 properties spanning our youth, adult family, relief support and community housing programs. With homes ranging in size from 2x1 to 4x2, backed by support services and a living experience that simulates the real rental experience, the project will give residents the best chance to develop the skills required to succeed in a permanent housing solution. Tenants self-direct the service opportunities they choose to take up – we simply listen to their story as they identify things that are important to them, then look for ways to provide our own wraparound supports or link to other community organisations.

The power of surroundings

The refurbishment project has the potential to benefit everyone from singles to large adult families, giving people the opportunity to experience the self-worth and improved motivation that comes from living in a well-maintained, safe, secure and weatherproof home. Tenants will rent the homes at a subsidised rate in exchange for committing to engage with a Case Worker, allowing us to work one on one in ways that help build their capacity to develop life skills to thrive. By listening to their unique needs and solution ideas, we can work alongside them during their time with us to build the life skills most of us take for granted, from turning a house into a home, to budgeting and priority setting, getting kids to school on time and being a good neighbour. With a newfound sense of purpose and self-worth, together we can set more people up to find and sustain permanent housing, for good.

Together, we can make it happen

The mission to eliminate homelessness in the South West is a challenge we can only solve together and through partnerships. While the generous Community Housing Grant funding is ensuring we can breathe new life into 14 of our 31 homes, there’s no limit to what we can achieve for our communities when we work as one. That’s why we’re calling on the generosity of the community to support our refurbishments projects in any way possible. If you know local businesses, or civic mindset individuals with the ability to contribute funds, please complete the below form and reach out to us or use the DONATE button via our homepage.
