Start rehabilitation from prison with the Pathways program

10 weeks, limitless possibility

Run by the Department of Justice and delivered by Accordwest, the Pathways program offers support for prisoners through a 10-week, high-intensity drug and alcohol treatment program in Bunbury Prison. Program acceptance is through the Department Treatment Assessment process.

Let the journey begin

The Pathways program offers support for prisoners by helping build the foundation to embark on a journey of self-discovery and positive change. Using a CBT based group treatment program, we’ll help them identify ‘SMART’ goals and work towards achieving them.

Rediscovering themselves

The Pathways program helps people in Bunbury Prison become more in tune with themselves, their situation, and how they think. As they become more self-aware, they increase their chances of behaviour changes that lead to successful rehabilitation from prison.

With them all the way

While the Pathways Program is designed to provide support for prisoners, we're also here to be alongside them on journey, cheering them on to change whatever life circumstances led them to Bunbury Prison and motivate them to make positive change.

Breaking the cycle

Many people who find themselves in Bunbury Prison need help identifying the root of the problems behind their criminal offending behaviour. Some are unaware of the link between unhealthy substance use and their actions, others the negative impact that being unable to regulate their strong emotions, impulses and negative thinking can have and others that they have the power to change. While every story is different, the Pathways Program builds strong foundations and positive change.

Rehabilitation from prison is a journey of self-discovery. As participants move along the Pathways Program, they’ll be empowered to make positive behavioural changes by opening their eyes to the different factors that contribute to it. As their self-awareness grows, so too will their ability to regulate their thoughts and emotions, solve problems on their own, and communicate in a healthy, positive, assertive way.

We get to know them

A big part of our support for prisoners is working together to understand more about the values, beliefs and interpretations they hold about themselves, their situation, and the circumstances surrounding their life choices.

We make progress, together

The Pathways Program provides support for prisoners through group sessions at Bunbury Prison, where group members are supported to identify triggers and develop appropriate relapse prevention plans.

We prepare them for the future

Working with our team, participants will feel empowered to move through a journey of change as they explore new ways of viewing situations and develop a tool kit of strategies to carry with them during rehabilitation from prison and beyond.

We see it through

Participants will be encouraged to identify Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely (SMART) goals that hold them accountable as they implement positive changes, with regular check-ins during the therapeutic relationship to monitor progress.

Their story, their future

There are many reasons why good people find themselves on the wrong side of the law. Just know that at Accordwest, we believe every story matters, no matter how big or small, or who is telling it. As part of the South West community fabric since 1983, we understand that criminal offending behaviours don’t define the person, and use the Pathways Program as a platform to walk alongside participants on their journey, acting as their motivation to not go back into Bunbury Prison.
